MASON, Ohio (AP) Third-seeded Simona Halep advanced to third round of the Western & Southern Open with a 6-3, 6-1 win over qualifier Annika Beck on Wednesday.

Halep, a three-time Cincinnati quarterfinalist who lost to Serena Williams in last year's final, is scheduled meet the winner of the match between 17th-seeded Elina Svitolina and qualifier Daria Gavrilova.

On the men's side, Rio Olympics bronze-medalist Kei Nishikori reached the third round with a 6-3, 6-2 win over qualifier Mikhail Youzhny. The fifth-seeded Nishikori will meet the winner of the match between 11th-seeded David Goffin and Bernard Tomic.

Rain delayed the start of play for 90 minutes. The tournament had 39 singles matches scheduled for Wednesday, trying to make up for weather delays over the first two full days of play.
