8:05 p.m.

Second-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic reached her first French Open quarterfinal by coming back to edge 97th-ranked Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Pliskova was the runner-up at last year's U.S. Open. But she had never been past the second round in five previous appearances at Roland Garros.

Cepede Royg had a chance to pull off the upset, holding a break point while ahead 4-3 in the third set. If she had won that point, she would have served for the victory. But she missed a backhand, then put her hands on her hips and rolled her eyes.

From there, Pliskova took the next three points to hold serve, starting a match-ending, three-game run.

Pliskova now faces No. 28 Caroline Garcia of France for a semifinal berth.

7:50 p.m.

Caroline Garcia beat French compatriot Alize Cornet in straight sets at the French Open to reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinal.

The 28th-seeded Garcia won 6-2, 6-4 after Cornet dropped her serve for the fifth time in the match. Garcia sealed the result on the second of three match points when the No. 43 hit a forehand into the net following a long rally.

6:05 p.m.

Kei Nishikori can't remember beating Andy Murray at the U.S. Open, ahead of their French Open quarterfinal.

Nishikori beat Murray in a dramatic five-setter 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 last year to reach the semifinals at Flushing Meadows.

''Actually I'm very bad with the memories,'' Nishikori said. ''I don't even know if I won or lost.''

Nishikori, who has won just two of 10 matches against Murray, added with a smile: ''I mean, always, you know, when we play, it's always a battle. Sorry that I don't remember much.''

The eighth-seeded Nishikori will face the world No. 1 at Roland Garros on Wednesday.

5:55 p.m.

Stan Wawrinka reached the French Open quarterfinals for the fourth time after beating Gael Monfils 7-5, 7-6 (7), 6-2.

The 2015 champion sealed victory on his third match point with a backhand down the line that the Frenchman could not return.

The third-seeded Swiss next plays No. 7 Marin Cilic of Croatia.

Cilic was leading 6-3, 3-0 against Kevin Anderson when the unseeded South African pulled out with a left thigh injury.

---

5:35 p.m.

Seventh-seeded Marin Cilic advanced to the French Open quarterfinals for the first time after Kevin Anderson retired during the second set of their fourth-round match.

Cilic was leading 6-3, 3-0 on Court Suzanne Lenglen when Anderson quit.

Cilic, the 2014 U.S. Open champion, will next face either third-seeded Stan Wawrinka or No. 15 Gael Monfils.

4:20 p.m.

After losing the first six games, Kei Nishikori quickly turned things around and advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open by beating Fernando Verdasco 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.

The eighth-seeded Nishikori is in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the seventh time.

Nishikori, who lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in his only other quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros, will next face top-ranked Andy Murray.

---

2:40 p.m.

Top-seeded Andy Murray became the 15th man with 650 tour-level match wins and has reached the quarterfinals in a fifth consecutive appearance at the French Open.

Murray played cleanly to beat 53rd-ranked Karen Khachanov of Russia 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Murray made only 14 unforced errors. Khachanov had 38.

This marks Murray's seventh overall trip to the round of eight at Roland Garros. He was the runner-up a year ago. The three-time major champion is now 650-181 for his career, a .782 winning percentage.

The 21-year-old Khachanov, the youngest man left in the field, was playing in the fourth round at a major for the first time. This was his third Grand Slam tournament.

1:20 p.m.

Fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina advanced to the French Open quarterfinals by beating Croatian qualifier Petra Martic 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Martic, ranked 290th, served for the match at 5-3 on Court Suzanne Lenglen but was broken by Svitolina.

Svitolina, who needed treatment on her back at the start of the third set, won on her second match point when Martic hit a backhand into the net.

Svitolina will next face third-seeded Simona Halep, the French Open runner-up in 2014.

---

12:15 p.m.

Third-seeded Simona Halep advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open by beating No. 21 Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-1.

Halep had lost her previous four clay-court matches against Suarez Navarro, including in the first round at Roland Garros in 2013.

Suarez Navarro dropped her opening service game in the second set but broke back in the next game. It was the only blip from Halep, the runner-up in 2014.

The Romanian will next face either No. 5 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine or Croatian qualifier Petra Martic.

---

11:10 a.m.

Former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka and two runners-up will complete their fourth-round matches on Monday at Roland Garros.

Wawrinka won the title in 2015. The third-seeded Swiss, a three-time Grand Slam champion, faces 15th-seeded Gael Monfils on Court Phillipe Chatrier.

Andy Murray, last year's runner-up, is also on Chatrier. The three-time Grand Slam champion has never won at Roland Garros, and never faced unseeded Russian Karen Khachanov, either.

Third-seeded Simona Halep, the 2014 runner-up, faces No. 21 Carla Suarez Navarro.
