A catcher his entire career, Pudge has played a handful of games at first base this season and made his first career appearance at second base after an injured Placido Polanco left the game against Boston on Aug. 15.
The Yankees' Johnny Damon hits a two-run, fifth-inning homer in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Red Sox. Damon hit a two-run homer in the second game as well, as the Yankees swept the twinbill.
The Yankees' Bobby Abreu slides home safely past Red Sox catcher Javy Lopez after a single by Robinson Cano in the third inning on Aug. 19. At the time, Abreu was batting .397 with 15 walks since coming to the Yankees while Lopez had hit .263 with one walk in 11 games with the Red Sox.
Orioles starting pitcher Daniel Cabrera had 10 strikeouts in a five-hit, complete-game shutout of the Blue Jays on Aug. 19, including a game-ending strikeout of Gregg Zaun at Camden Yards.
Giants shortstop Omar Vizquel tags out Rafael Furcal for a double play after the Dodger was caught off second base in the fifth inning at AT&T Park on Aug. 20. The Dodgers beat the Giants 5-2 to lead the tight NL West by four games.
Royals shortstop Andres Blanco turns a double play against A's catcher Jason Kendall in the fourth inning at Kauffman Stadium on Aug. 20. The Athletics won 6-4, handing the Royals their 81st loss of the season. Kansas City is on pace to finish with the worst AL team record for the third consecutive season.
Mariners center fielder Ichiro Suzuki fails to grab a ground ball hit by Jose Molina in the fifth inning at Angel Stadium on Aug. 20. Seattle lost the game 3-2, extending its losing streak to 11.
The Braves' Marcus Giles slides home safely ahead of the tag by Nationals catcher Brian Schneider in the fifth inning at RFK Stadium on Aug. 17. The Braves won 5-0 and remained 5 1/2 games back in the NL wild-card race.
The Devil Rays' Carl Crawford steals second as Blue Jays shortstop John McDonald fields a high throw in the first inning at Tropicana Field on Aug. 17. Tampa lost 6-2, but Crawford stole three bases in the game after having stolen three against Toronto the night before.
