White Sox starter Freddy Garcia had a potential perfect game broken up with a base hit by the Angels' Adam Kennedy with two out in the eighth inning on Sept. 13. Garcia allowed only one hit and no walks over eight innings for the win.

A's catcher Jason Kendall dives to catch a bunt pop-out by the White Sox' Tadahito Iguchi in the third inning of a 7-4 Oakland win on Saturday. The Athletics swept their three-game series with Chicago to expand their lead in the AL West to seven games.

In his highly anticipated return from a one-month stint on the DL, Twins starting pitcher Francisco Liriano reinjured his left elbow in the third inning against the A's on Sept. 13. Despite favorable test results showing no new structural damage, the Twins' left-hander will not take the mound again this year.

Mets third baseman David Wright barehanded the ball in front of umpire Phil Cuzzi and threw out Josh Willingham at first in the second inning of the Mets' 16-5 defeat on Sept. 11. Both teams wore caps to honor the seven New York City departments that suffered losses five years ago.

The Yankees' Alex Rodriguez broke up a double play attempt by Devil Rays shortstop Ben Zobrist, allowing Jason Giambi to reach first and Derek Jeter to score on the play in the first inning of an 8-4 win for the Yankees on Sept. 13.

Cardinals right fielder Chris Duncan was charged with an error for missing a fly ball hit by the Astros' Brad Ausmus in the seventh inning of a 5-1 loss by the Cards on Sept. 13. After Duncan was named NL Rookie of the Month for August, his play has sharply declined since. He was hitting a paltry .174 two weeks into September.

Royals catcher John Buck tags out Jose Lopez in the sixth inning on Sept. 14. The Royals beat the Mariners 10-8.

The Nationals' Nook Logan reaches first on a bunt, just avoiding the tag attempt by Diamondbacks first baseman Conor Jackson in the eighth inning of a 4-2 win for the D-Backs on Sept. 13.

Hideki Matsui went 4 for 4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI against the Devil Rays on Sept. 12 in his first game back in the lineup since breaking his left wrist four months earlier.

The Padres' Geoff Blum beats the throw to Reds shortstop Rich Aurilia in the second inning on Sept. 13. Cincy lost the game 10-0, falling even farther behind San Diego in the wild-card race.

Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain allowed two hits, a walk and no runs in eight innings against the Rockies on Sept. 14 for his fourth straight win. Cain has not allowed an earned run in his last 30 2/3 innings.

The Orioles' Kevin Millar beats the diving tag by Jason Varitek to score on a single by Jeff Fiorentino in the fourth inning on Sept. 14. Varitek's return earlier in the month has done little to help the ailing Red Sox come close to earning a playoff berth.
