Martin Fourcade of France wins biathlon World Cup 20K event

RUHPOLDING, Germany (AP) Martin Fourcade won his 42nd biathlon World Cup event on Wednesday, overcoming one shooting error and tough snowy conditions in the 20-kilometer event.

The Frenchman won by a comfortable 17.5 seconds over Simon Eder of Austria. Anton Shipulin of Russia was 28.9 seconds behind in third. Eder and Shipulin also had one error each in the four shootings.

With his fifth win of the season, Fourcade extended his overall World Cup lead. He now has 601 points. Tarjei Boe of Norway is second with 438 points after finishing 11th in Wednesday's race. He had two misses.

Fourcade, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and six-time world champion, is seeking a record fifth straight overall World Cup title.
