France sweeps 5k titles at US open water nationals

MIROMAR LAKES, Fla. (AP) Marc Antoine Olivier of France and countrywoman Aurelie Muller won the men's and women's 5-kilometer races at the USA Swimming open water national championships Sunday.

Olivier touched first in 57 minutes, 24.104 seconds at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club. Ous Mellouli of Tunisia finished second in 57:24.246 and Ferry Weertman of the Netherlands was third in 57:25.439. Chip Peterson of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina, was the highest U.S. finisher in fifth at 57:32.199.

In Friday's 10k race, Weertman finished second behind American Andrew Gemmell and Mellouli was third.

Muller out-touched Haley Anderson of Granite Bay, California, by .008 seconds. Muller won in 1:01:48.307 and Anderson took second in 1:01:48.409. Poliana Okimoto of Brazil was third in 1:01:48.524.
