January, Larkins help Fever defeat Mercury 78-60

PHOENIX (AP) - Briann January had 13 points and a career-high six steals, and Erlana Larkins had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Indiana Fever to a 78-60 win over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night.

Indiana, which outscored Phoenix 30-10 in the third quarter to take control of the game, turned 27 Mercury turnovers into 38 points.Tiffany Mitchell, the leading rookie scorer in the WNBA at 11.7 points per game, had 12 points for the Fever (8-11), ranked eighth in the AP power poll.

Diana Taurasi and Kelsey Bone had 13 points each for fifth-ranked Phoenix (8-12).

Phoenix led 29-28 at halftime despite 12 turnovers as Indiana, which tied a WNBA record with 39 points in the fourth quarter of its last game, shot just 31 percent.

Indiana opened the third quarter with a 12-2 run and closed with a 12-0 run.

NBA star James Harden, who attended Arizona State with January when both were featured on a Sports Illustrated cover, attended the game.
