WWE Announces ‘Backlash’ Pay-Per-View in Puerto Rico With Bad Bunny as Host

Bad Bunny is returning to WWE.

The global musical star will serve as host of Backlash on Saturday, May 6, which takes place at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This will be the first WWE pay-per-view to take place in Puerto Rico since 2005.

The Grammy award-winning artist endeared himself to wrestling fans when he teamed with Damian Priest against John Morrison and The Miz at WrestleMania 37. He also returned at last year’s Royal Rumble match. The combination of his passion for pro wrestling and his star power have transformed him into one of WWE’s most influential celebrities, and the native son of Puerto Rico now has the chance to perform in front of his home country.

“In 2005, when I was a kid, I wasn’t able to attend New Year’s Revolution at el Coliseo,” Bad Bunny said in a statement. “Finally, 18 years later, WWE returns to the island with a massive event, and this time I won’t miss it.”

Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who is WWE’s chief content officer, has developed a strong relationship with Bad Bunny. They have remained in contact about his next appearance, and the opportunity to do so in his home country made perfect sense.

“We’re excited to bring Backlash to San Juan as the demand for WWE premium live events outside of the continental United States continues to grow,” Levesque said in a statement. “Bad Bunny is one of the world’s most-popular entertainers and nowhere is that more evident than in his native Puerto Rico.”
