In the wake of Wisconsin's loss to Duke in Monday night's national championship game, Badger fans had some unkind words for Maryland recruit and Milwaukee native Diamond Stone.

The vitriol toward Stone, a five-star center, from Wisconsin fans had been steady ever since his commitment to the Big Ten rival Terrapins on March 27. After Duke knocked off the Badgers, Stone offered up a series of tweets that included a laughing emoji, a congratulations to Blue Devils star Jahlil Okafor, and finally a series of turtle emojis, which can be reasonably assumed to represent terrapins.

Predictably, Wisconsin fans were none the happier. And, predictably, Twitter brought the worst out of them, including assaults on Stone's intelligence, questions about his literacy and ACT score, and more. and The Washington Post's Dan Steinberg rounded up the anti-Stone tweets, some of which you can read below. These were some of the nicer ones, relatively speaking. They went on for hours.

These types of tweets toward recruits from unhappy fans have become somewhat commonplace. And though his own tweets may have been bait, let's remember Stone recently turned 18.

"I get all the tweets, calling me a traitor, swearing at me," Stone said in a radio interview last week. "I just ignore all that, turn my notifications off."

"Wisconsin fans are trying to find every little thing to get at me," Stone continued. "My guidance counselor [asked me], 'Do you want me to post your scores online to people know?' I got a 20 on the ACT and I was all fine to go to Wisconsin. I could've went to Wisconsin, but I feel like Maryland is the place for me."

Well, Maryland-Wisconsin should be interesting next season.
