Down 35–21 at the half on Sunday, Syracuse used a big second half push led by Malachi Richardson to upset No. 1 Virginia and advance to the Final Four. ACC Player of the Year Malcolm Brogdon made just 2 of 14 shots as the Virginia offense fell flat, ultimately ceding the game by the score of 68–62.
