Oklahoma president David Boren said the Big 12 may need a unanimous vote in order to expand the conference.

Boren made the comments at Oklahoma’s regents meeting on Thursday.

The comments come in the wake of Boren’s public disagreement with Oklahoma Board of Regents chair Max Weitzenhoffer, who was not in favor of Boren’s thoughts of expanding the conference.

Boren said his plan to grow the conference would be to start its own TV channel, then look into expansion and a conference championship game. Boren is in favor of a possible expansion, which could help the Big 12 improve in stature relative to other conferences, specifically the SEC.

Boren also confirmed during the Thursday’s meeting that the Sooners do not plan on trying to leave the Big 12 any time soon.
