Baylor has reached a contract settlement with former football coach Art Briles, reports Bleacher Report’s Jason King.

The details of the settlement have not been disclosed, King reports, but Baylor reportedly chose to settle after Briles threatened to sue the school for wrongful termination, among other claims, in a motion filed on Thursday. A meeting was reportedly held on Thursday evening between regents that discussed Briles and the settlement.

Briles was fired by Baylor last month in the wake of a wide-ranging sexual assault scandal at the school, which included numerous football players.

He reportedly had nearly $40 million left on his contract, which was not set to expire until 2023.

MCCANN: Motion filed by Art Briles opens door for potential suit vs. Baylor

In the motion, which is part of a federal lawsuit filed against Briles and the school, Briles claims he was never shown the evidence for why Baylor chose to fire him. Heads of the football program were implicated in the Pepper Hamilton report, released last month, but the school has said it will not release a full written version of the report because the original findings were presented orally.

On Friday, Briles withdrew his request to remove Baylor's attorneys as his legal representation in a Title IX suit filed against Baylor by a former female student.

Briles and Baylor are co-defendants in the lawsuit filed by a rape victim, and Briles’s lawyer said on Thursday that his client does not intend to settle.
