Perhaps lost in all the hubbub surrounding NBA teams picking the young men that will help guide their futures was this: The magnificent locks of Lucas Nogueira. The 7-foot center from Brazil, who was drafted by Hawks with the 16th pick (via the Celtics and Mavericks), gamely tried to throw on the traditional draft cap before resting it, crown-style, on top of his afro. It was his first prudent decision as a pro, as that mop should not be tamed by any outside forces, be they scissors or an invasive baseball hat.
Nogueira also became the latest in a proud line of Brazilians to flaunt their 'dos in the sports limelight, following in the footsteps of such follicular luminaries as the Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao and Brazil national team and Bayern Munich defender Dante.
