The trouble all started with an article from Complex UK that claimed the 25-year-old Adu had given up on a soccer career to become a nightclub promoter:

The former USMNT striker found out about the tweets and tried to clarify that he had simply hosted a party:

It's crazy to even think someone can mistake a host for a nightclub promoter. Can't believe someone actually thought that lol. #neverends

Later that day he reiterated that the report was incorrect:

Two tweets in a matter of hours seems like enough to clear up any misunderstandings, yes? Not for Adu:

After a weekend full of tweeting denials, Adu still did not seem satisfied so he issued another on Monday morning:
