One year after her passing, Michigan State students will pay tribute to 'Princess Lacey,' reports the Associated Press.

On Tuesday evening, students are expected to paint the campus rock, which serves as a message board for students and campus landmark, in honor of Lacey Holsworth, the 8-year-old girl who befriended former Spartans star Adreian Payne and the Michigan State basketball team last year. Students are invited to sign the rock all day on Wednesday.

Holsworth, a resident of St. Johns, Mich, just outside of Lansing, died last April 8, after a battle with nerve-cell cancer. The school held a vigil at the rock that night. Her genuine friendship with Payne had become a national story, and her significance to Michigan State and its students has lasted much the same.
