New York Mets fan starts GoFundMe page to buy team a hitter

A New York Mets fan has started a $3 million "GoFundMe" campaign to help the team acquire a hitter.

If you’re a New York Mets fan who claims you would do anything to help the team win, now’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is.

Die-hard Mets fan Etan has started a GoFundMe campaign for $3 million to help New York’s owners afford batting help for the team’s playoff push. The campaign, “Let’s Get the Mets a Hitter,” is aiming at providing the team enough money to find a hitter for the middle of the order.

According to the campaign description, the Mets “owners lost all their money in a [P]onzi scheme and reports now say the Mets won’t pay 2 to 3 million dollars to acquire a hitter before the trade deadline.”

Potential financial troubles aside, New York could certainly use help in the lineup: the Mets are last in the majors in batting average and second-to-last in runs scored.

MLB trade rumors: Latest buzz around potential deadline deals

As of Friday morning, the campaign had raised only $560 of its $3 million goal, but the Mets received a hitter nonetheless: the team called up heralded prospect Michael Conforto.
