Texas governor prematurely congratulates Astros on ALDS victory

Texas governor Greg Abbott congratulated the Astros on winning the ALDS before the game was actually over.

After Carlos Correa and Colby Rasmus hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning of Monday’s ALDS Game 4 against the Royals, it sure looked like the Astros were poised to clinch a spot in the ALCS. But it was still a bit early for Texas governor Greg Abbott to congratulate Houston on advancing to the next round. Because they lost.

Abbott tweeted, and then deleted the message, which was a good idea because Kansas City put up five runs in the eighth to take the lead. A two-run homer in the ninth from Eric Hosmer stretched the Royals lead to three runs and the Astros couldn’t score in the bottom of the ninth.

As for the governor's all-Texas ALCS hopes, the Rangers surrendered seven runs in the first three innings. Good luck getting re-elected, Greg.
