A new report from the Cauldron covers a laundry list of problems inside the 76ers organization as they undergo a long-term rebuilding process, including some trouble the team has had with 2014 draft pick Joel Embiid.

Embiid has reportedly battled with the team’s strength and conditioning group ever since joining the team, not only about the rehabilitation of his right foot after having surgery on a broken bone, but also on his diet, which apparently contains a large amount of Shirley Temples.

Per a source, the Sixers’ training staff was so concerned about what he was eating, they stocked the refrigerator in his downtown hotel residence each week with healthy food. When a staffer went to restock the fridge each week, most everything was uneaten and unopened, and they were throwing out the fruits and vegetables every week. When the team subsequently asked to see Embiid’s room service bill, they found that most days he was ordering junk food along with his signature beverage, a pitcher of Shirley Temples.

A pitcher of anything is a lot, a pitcher of an already sugary lemon-lime drink with more sugar added is approaching madness, especially for a pro athlete. In Embiid’s defense though, it is a delicious drink.
