Arsenal fan names baby after team without wife realizing

Lanesra is not a common name but that did not stop one Australian woman from naming her child that after her husband proposed it a few years ago. Two years later the dad revealed his ulterior motive for the unconventional name as Lanesra is Arsenal spelled backwards, in honor of his favorite soccer team.

The Gunners fan’s story went viral after his wife wrote into a magazine to tell her surprising tale, but The Guardian points out the daughter is hardly the first to have a soccer-inspired moniker, pointing to a child named YNWA, after Liverpool’s team song “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” And a man in 1966 named his son after every single player on Liverpool’s 1965 FA Cup championship team.

It seems the baby may be good luck for Arsenal as the team is sitting atop the Premier League, has won the FA Cup for two years running and will kick off their title defense in the prestigious soccer tournament with a match against Sunderland on Saturday.
