Rockies SS Jose Reyes to stand trial for domestic abuse charges
Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes will stand trial for the domestic abuse charges brought against him for allegedly assaulting his wife in October, Maui County officials confirmed to the New York Daily News.
Reyes entered a not guilty plea in November after his Oct. 31 arrest in Hawaii, and could still reach a plea deal before his April 4 trial, Maui County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kerry Glen told the Daily News. The April 4 trial date is also MLB’s Opening Day.
Reyes reportedly grabbed his wife and shoved her into a sliding glass door at the Maui Four Seasons Resort. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries, which were reportedly to her left leg and neck.

Reyes was released on $1,000 bail, and has not been punished by MLB as the league continues to investigate the situation.
The shortstop was traded to the Rockies from the Toronto Blue Jays in July, and has two years and $44 million remaining on the six-year, $106 million contract he originally signed with the Miami Marlins in 2012.
