Television cameras caught Tigers centerfield Tyler Collins directing an obscene gesture toward the Detroit crowd after he misplayed a ball in the sixth inning.

Collins appeared to lose track of a ball in the lights, allowing the ball to drop in for a hit. Collins was not given an error on the play, but leftfielder Justin Upton was for failing to pick up the ball. The misplay allowed batter Marcus Semien to advance to third.

The home fans started booing after the play and Collins responded by making an obscene gesture and cursing.

After the game, Collins apologized and told reporters he felt embarrassed about what had happened. Manager Brad Ausmus said he was disappointed in the outfielder and spoke with him after the game.

Collins, 26, is the Tigers’ fourth outfielder.
