Report: Athletics trade Coco Crisp to Indians
The Athletics have traded leftfielder Coco Crisp to the Indians, reports Bay Area News Group’s John Hickey.
Major League Baseball must still approve the deal and the trade would need to be official by Wednesday for Crisp to be eligible for postseason play.
Cleveland enters Wednesday with a 75–56 record, 4.5 games ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central.
Crisp has played in 102 games for Oakland so far this season. He is hitting .234 with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs.
The Indians were in the market for outfield help after Michael Brantley underwent a season-ending shoulder surgery earlier this month. Brantley played in only 11 games for Cleveland this season, and fellow outfielder Abraham Almonte is not eligible for the playoffs after testing positive for boldenone earlier this year.
Crisp has played six-plus seasons with the Athletics, signing with the team in 2010. Crisp won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2007, and was the AL’s stolen base leader in 2011.
Crisp began his career with the Indians, playing in Cleveland from 2002 to '05.
