Former El Salvador national soccer team captain and New York Red Bulls defender Alfredo Pacheco was shot to death in front of a gas station in Santa Ana, El Salvador, reports Kyle McCarthy of FOXSports.com.
Pacheco was 33-years-old.
According to the report, Pacheco pulled into the gas station with friends at around 3:30 a.m. when another group ambushed them and opened fire. Two other individuals were injured, but their conditions were not reported.
Pacheco made 86 appearance with El Salvador over 11 seasons, earning his first cap in 2002. He was given a lifetime ban from soccer for match fixing in 2013.
He spent a stint on loan to the Red Bulls in 2009, playing in 14 games.
