BREMEN, Germany (AP) — Werder Bremen says U.S. forward Aron Johannsson is not expected to play again this season because of a groin injury.

Johannsson says there is "no specific date" for his return to the team in an interview on the club's website. Werder said that was not likely before next season.

Werder Bremen director Thomas Echin tells Bild newspaper that "we've given up on Aron for this season."

Johannsson scored two goals in the first six matches this season but has been sidelined since September.
