Red Sox: Ranger Suarez (5-3, 3.41 ERA)
Marlins: Sandy Alcantara (13-8, 3.46 ERA)

Ranger Suarez has been building up his pitch count since returning from injury in July, and got to 93 pitches in 5.1 innings against the Diamondbacks last time out. He allowed four runs on four hits in that one after throwing five one-run frames against the Blue Jays in his previous outing.

Sandy Alcantara is looking to bounce back from allowing three runs on eight hits in six innings in a loss to the Phillies, but that was still his fifth-straight quality start. The veteran has allowed three runs or fewer in six of nine starts since July 4, lowering his ERA from 4.20 to 3.46.

Boston’s starters pitched six, 5.2, and seven innings in the weekend series against San Francisco. The Red Sox should have a rested bullpen to use after five strong innings from Suarez.

This should be a pitcher’s duel in Miami tonight.

Suarez has been solid enough recently, and he’s had success pitching in Miami before when he was with the Phillies. Even if he struggles, the Marlins bats aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire right now. And I’m not too worried about Alcantara given his string of quality starts.
