Manny Pacquiao will have surgery for 'significant tear' in rotator cuff

Manny Pacquiao will have surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, Los Angeles-based sports medicine surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache said, according to ESPN's Dan Rafael

Pacquiao revealed the injury after Saturday's fight against Floyd Mayweather, saying he asked to receive an anti-inflammatory shot to relieve some of the discomfort but had his request denied by the Nevada Athletic Commission just before the fight. 

"You know, this training camp, I thought we were planning to postpone our event," Pacquiao said after the fight. "It had been two weeks I didn't train good, or I didn't use my right hand."

Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said after the fight that Pacquiao sustained the injury in training last month. 

Pacquaio lost the highly anticipated fight against Mayweather by unanimous decision.

After surgery, Pacquiao will need three to eight months to recover, according to the Los Angeles Times
