Five-star recruit Thon Maker plans to reclassify to 2015

Wednesday February 18th, 2015

Thon Maker announced on Twitter Wednesday that he is on track to graduate this year.

Maker said this summer that he was leaning toward remaining in the class of 2016, but his guardian, Ed Smith, told the Courier-Journal in Louisville last month that Maker would reclassify "if his academic workload will allow it."

Maker was born in Sudan but moved to Australia when he was seven. He currently plays at Orangeville Prep in Ontario, Canada. The 7-foot, 210-pound center was considered one of the top prospects in the 2016 class.

It's unclear whether Maker will go to college. According to an ESPN report, Maker could remain at Orangeville for a postgraduate year before entering the NBA draft in 2016, and Smith has mentioned Maker potentially playing overseas for a season.

Maker has drawn reported scholarship offers from more than 10 schools. Kansas and Kentucky are believed to be among the teams strongly pursuing Maker.
