Liberty fires coach Dale Layer

Thursday March 5th, 2015

Liberty has fired coach Dale Layer. The school announced the news on Wednesday, the same day Liberty fell to UNC Asheville in the Big South tournament.

The Flames went 8-24 and posted a 2-16 mark in conference play this season. Over six seasons under Layer, Liberty went 82-113 with one NCAA Tournament appearance, in 2013.

Layer was named the Big South coach of the year in 2011, after Liberty recorded a program-record 13 conference wins in the Big South and finished in second place in the conference.

Prior to taking over Liberty, Layer coached Colorado State from 2000 to 2007.
