Watch: LSU’s Ben Simmons posts 43 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists in win
The 6'10" freshman scored 43 points on 15-of-20 shooting with 14 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and three blocks. He shot 13 of 15 points from the line and made all 15 of his field goals from inside the paint.
According to ESPN, Simmons became the only major-conference player in the past 20 years to post a 40-point, 10-rebound, five-assist five-steal line. Jared Sullinger, Michael Beasley and Tyler Hansbrough are the only freshmen in that span to finish with 40 points and 10 rebounds in a game.
The win halted a three-game losing streak for the Tigers, who are now 4–3 after an underwhelming start compared to their preseason expectations. Those expectations centered largely around Simmons, the five-star Australian prodigy with prodigious playmaking ability. He continues to dominate the conversation for the No. 1 pick in next year’s NBA draft.
