Tuesday August 12th, 2014

BYU wide receiver Devon Blackmon tweeted Monday he will miss the season opener against Connecticut on Aug. 29 for breaking school rules by wearing earrings.

The school has not made an official announcement on Blackmon's status with the team.

"Rules are rules.. Abide by them or suffer the consequences.... Looking forward to the Texas game," Blackmon said on his Twitter account.

“Yea, We have team standards, and there's consequences if you don't follow them, I shouldn't wear earrings But I'll bounce back,”'s 2014 Preseason All-America Team

Blackmon’s tweets regarding the violation were soon deleted.

According to the BYU honor code, wearing earrings and other body piercing are not acceptable. Other unacceptable standards for appearance having include beards and wearing sleeveless shirts.

Running back Jamaal Williams will also miss the Connecticut game after being being arrested in March on a misdemeanor charge of underage drinking.
