Sophomore Oklahoma State transfer Wes Lunt will be Illinois' starting quarterback, head coach Tim Beckman announced Wednesday. Lunt was competing with senior Reilly O'Toole and sophomore Aaron Bailey for the starting role.

Lunt was a four-star recruit in the class of 2012, ranked the seventh-best quarterback prospect in the country by Rivals.com. He started five games for Oklahoma State as a true freshman, including the first three games of the season, completing 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,108 yards and six touchdowns.

When Lunt looked to transfer after his freshman season, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy placed restrictions on the move, preventing Lunt from transferring to any Big 12, SEC or Pac-12 school. Gundy ultimately lifted the restrictions, but Lunt had notably been prevented from speaking to several SEC schools.
