Nebraska DE Randy Gregory declaring for NFL draft

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory has announced he's enter the NFL draft.

Gregory was a first-team All-Big Ten pick as a junior after leading the Cornhuskers with seven sacks. He was fourth on the team with 54 tackles, including 10 for losses even though he missed two games and was limited in two others because of injuries. He also blocked two kicks.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Gregory finished his two-year Nebraska career with 17.5 sacks after transferring from Arizona Western Community College.

ESPN first reported his decision Tuesday.

''I chose the University of Nebraska because of the rich tradition, the great academics and sense of family I felt when I stepped onto the campus. It has been everything and more for me and I'm thankful to the Nebraska faithful,'' Gregory said in a statement through his representative, Destined for Success Management.

Gregory is considered one of the nation's top pass rushers, and he's been projected to be a high first-round draft pick.

''People expected me to come out last season,'' he said, ''but I knew I had more work to do... I'm ready for the next challenge in my life. I look forward to the coaching I will receive and the chance to push myself alongside the best players in the world.''
