Texas Longhorns coach Charlie Strong told reporters Thursday the team will use two quarterbacks in its season opener against Notre Dame

Junior Tyrone Swoopes and redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard are currently battling for the starting job, and it's still unclear who will take the first snap under center.

Last season, Swoopes played in 12 games, taking over as the Longhorns' starter in Week 2 after an injury to David Ash. Swoopes completed 58% of his passes, throwing 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also ran for 262 yards and four scores.

Swoopes also saw limited playing time in 2013.

Heard, a dual-threat quarterback, was a four-star recruit in the class of 2014.

Texas will take on the Fighting Irish on Sept. 5 in South Bend.
