The Oklahoma Sooners will name Baker Mayfield as the team's starting quarterback, according to multiple reports.

The Sooners chose Mayfield over incumbent starter Trevor Knight and sophomore Cody Thomas. Mayfield will be entering his junior season.

Mayfield won Big 12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year in 2013, when he started as a true-freshman, walk-on quarterback for Texas Tech. He threw for 2,315 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight games that season.

Mayfield left the Red Raiders and enrolled at Oklahoma in January 2014, without contacting the Sooners' coaching staff. He sat out all of last season and lost a season of eligibility due to conference transfer rules.
