Florida State senior quarterback Everett Golson will start the Seminoles’ opening game against Texas State on Saturday, the team announced Monday.

Golson, a transfer from Notre Dame, completed 60% of his passes for 3,445 yards and 29 touchdowns last season for the Fighting Irish. He graduated from Notre Dame in May of 2015, allowing him to play out his final year of eligibility in 2015.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher also considered junior Sean Maguire, who led FSU to a 23-17 overtime win over No. 17 Clemson last season when starting in place of the suspended Jameis Winston.

Golson quarterbacked the Fighting Irish to the BCS National Championship Game as a redshirt freshman in 2012. He sat out all of 2013 due to an academic suspension.
