Auburn WR Myron Burton Jr. leaves team before season opener

Tuesday September 1st, 2015

Auburn wide receiver Myron Burton Jr. is no longer with the team, head coach Gus Malzahn announced Tuesday.

“It was a mutual decision, and we wish him nothing but the best for the future,” Malzahn told reporters after releasing the team's first depth-chart of the season.

The redshirt freshman had a strong showing in spring practices. Burton earned offensive MVP honors at Auburn's A-Day spring scrimmage after catching seven passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.

He described his performance in Auburn's spring game as a “dream come true,” and said he was “just hoping for the best” this season.

With the departure of Burton, Auburn will now have to shuffle it's depth chart at wide receiver.

“We've got three or four guys who can play both,” Malzahn said. “We'll move people around probably more than we have in the past. We do have some depth at receiver we feel good about.”

Auburn opens the 2015 season against Louisville on Sept. 5.
