Miami star running back Duke Johnson will miss the rest of the season with a broken ankle, sources told Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald. Johnson will reportedly undergo surgery next week.

Johnson was injured late in Miami's 41-14 loss to Florida State on Saturday. With the Seminoles leading 35-14 in the third quarter, Johnson was stuffed on fourth-and-two from the 'Noles' 26-yard line. Not only was Johnson unable to pick up the first down, but he also went down in pain. He was immediately carted into the Hurricanes' locker room.

Reports stated that Johnson's right leg was placed in a cast shortly thereafter.

The Hurricanes had featured Johnson prominently since he returned to the starting lineup after suffering a head injury against North Carolina on Oct. 17. He carried 30 times for 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns in last week's 24-21 victory over Wake Forest, and he had 23 carries against Florida State on Saturday night before he went down. For the season, Johnson had 920 rushing yards and six scores.
