Before a big game, coaches often emphasize the importance of the previous week of practice. A set schedule allows a team to run drills, watch tape, lift weights and do all the other things necessary to prepare to take the field on Saturday. Per a report from John Helsley of NewsOK.com, the NCAA will dock Oklahoma State one day of practice per week as a result of Academic Progress Rate (APR) numbers to be released by the NCAA later on Wednesday.
Helsley notes that the Cowboys fell a "fraction of a point shy of avoiding penalty" at 929.41. Had the team been at 929.5, the score would have rounded up to the benchmark of 930, the minimum standard required by the NCAA.
The program’s numbers were actually improved from a year ago, when OSU scored 926 over four years, but the NCAA raised its minimums for this season, from 900 for four years and 930 for two years, to 930 and 940.Florida State Texas
The source said school officials anticipate that the penalty will be limited to one season, as the program has made adjustments resulting in significant improvements over the past two years. This reporting period spans the 2012-13, 2011-12, 2010-11 and 2009-10 school years, with the latter – one of the worst of the years calculated – falling off the books.
