There may not have been as many upsets as there were in Day 1, but the second day of the tourney was filled with just as many shining moments in the making.<br><br> Trouble started early for the Mountaineers, but sophomore Devin Ebanks helped close the gap by racking up 16 points and 13 rebounds for West Virginia.

Defensively, West Virginia worked to contain Morgan State's go-to player, Da'Sean Butler. He only wrangled nine points in the game.

Despite their 10-0 lead early on, the Bears couldn't hold off second-seeded West Virginia.

In the day's biggest upset, the Big Red crushed fifth-seeded Temple 78-65. Cornell shot 56 percent from the floor en route to its first NCAA tournament win in five appearances.

Senior Louis Dale led the Big Red's dominance, scoring 21 points, while fellow upperclassman and Ivy League player of the year Ryan Wittman scored 20.

Donald Sloan was one of four in double figures as fifth-seeded Texas A&M prevailed. The Aggies (24-9), who won their fifth straight first-round tourney game (Pitt is the only other team who can say that), will face fourth-seeded Purdue on Sunday.

Florida State's Ryan Reid goes high to get his shot off over Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk. Matt Bouldin scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half to help eighth-seeded Gonzaga, which converted 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch, move on to the second round.

On a night when ACC player of the year Greivis Vasquez was having trouble scoring, Maryland turned to freshman forward Jordan Williams (No. 20). The freshman set career highs with 21 points and 17 rebounds as he powered the fourth-seeded Terrapins (24-8), who will face fifth-seeded Michigan State on Sunday.

Senior Wes Johnson (No. 4) hit 3-of-5 three-pointers and finished with 18 points, one of five in double figures, as Syracuse scored 35 of the game's first 45 points to improve to 29-4. The Orange will face eighth-seeded Gonzaga on Sunday.

Jon Diebler was one of Friday's shooting stars, connecting on 7-of-12 3-pointers for a game-high 23 points as the second-seeded Buckeyes coasted. Ohio State (28-7), which won the Big Ten Conference tourney, will face tenth-seeded Georgia Tech Sunday.
California 77, Louisville 62
Jerome Randle (shown) and Theo Robertson collected 21 points as eighth-seeded Cal answered its critics by knocking off Louisville. The Golden Bears' reward? A Sunday meeting with top-seeded Duke.

Iman Shumpert soared to get two of his nine points as tenth-seeded Georgia Tech ousted seventh-seeded Oklahoma State. The free throw-challenged Yellow Jackets scored their last 13 points -- and were 24-of-25 in the game -- from the line.

Kalin Lucas admires his handiwork en route to scoring a career-high 25 points for the fifth-seeded Spartans. Raymar Morgan emerged from a quiet night with four straight points, including two free throws with 18.6 seconds remaining with the aid of a lane-violation call.

Think it's easy to just get the ball inbounds? Look at what Pine Bluff's Savalance Townsend has to contend with as Duke's Kyle Singler pressures the ball. Singler finished with a game-high 22 points as Duke (30-5) rolled.

Xavier edged out Minnesota to advance to the second round for the fourth straight year.

Sophomore Nasir Robinson (left) was one of six Panthers in double figures, but also contributed five assists. Pittsburgh, seeded third, avoided the string of Big East upsets and will face sixth-seeded Xavier Sunday.

Jason Bohannon (left) wasn't going to let fourth-seeded Wisconsin fall into Wofford's trap. Jon Leuer finished with 20 points and Trevon Hughes added 19 as UW advanced to face Cornell.
