Oklahoma has fired basketball coach Jeff Capel, a source has told SI.com.

Capel was 96-69 in five seasons at Oklahoma and led the Sooners to a 30-6 record and an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2008-09. But Oklahoma struggled the last two seasons, going 13-18 in 2009-10 and 14-18 this season.

Prior to coming to Oklahoma in 2006, Capel spent four seasons at Virginia Commonwealth, where he was once the youngest coach in the nation.
