Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver will retire in December for health reasons, reports David Teel of the Daily Press in Newport, Va.
Associate AD Sharon McCloskey will step in on an interim basis.
Weaver has been battling Parkinson's disease and was told by doctors earlier this year that he needs both of his hips replaced, according to Teel. Weaver said those health concerns have made it difficult for him to travel regularly.
