Iowa guard Peter Jok suspended indefinitely after second arrest

Iowa sophomore guard Peter Jok was arrested Monday night in Iowa City and has been charged with driving while his license was suspended or revoked, reports local television station CBS2. As a result, Iowa coach Fran McCaffery announced Tuesday that Jok has been suspended indefinitely.

Jok was stopped by police for having an improper rear light on his moped and for failing to have a safety flag attached to the vehicle. He was also arrested in April on an OWI charge, which led to his license getting revoked. The charge Jok currently faces could carry a maximum of one year in jail, along with fines.

McCaffery released the following statement on Jok: 

"In light of last night's moped incident, I've decided to suspend Peter Jok indefinitely from all University of Iowa basketball related activities," McCaffery said, via CBSSports.com. "We support Peter, but we're not happy with his recent pattern of behavior. In the interim, Peter will continue to attend summer school classes, participate in community service projects, and take time to work on things internally, as outlined in accordance with the student-athlete Code of Conduct. We will monitor his progress and go from there."

Earlier Tuesday, Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said in a statement to CBS2 that he was "very disappointed" in Jok, especially given his previous incident.

Jok, a native of the Sudan, averaged 4.4 points in 9.4 minutes per game last season as a freshman for the Hawkeyes and was expected to take on a bigger role for the team this year. Iowa went 20-13 a year ago, falling in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament to Tennessee.
