Kansas coach Bill Self says Cavaliers contacted him about job

Kansas head coach Bill Self said he was contacted by the Cleveland Cavaliers about their vacant head coaching job, but he declined to get into specifics about what was discussed.

The Cavaliers ended up hiring David Blatt on June 20. Cleveland reportedly had gone after Kentucky coach John Calipari, who turned down a deal that could have been worth around $60 million.

Calipari instead signed a seven-year, $52 million extension last month to stay in Lexington.

"I talked to the Cavs’ people a lot throughout their evaluation process and the draft, but I’ll just leave it at that,” Self said. “That wasn’t anything I wanted to become public certainly, and they didn’t either.”
