Len Bias to be inducted into Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame
Maryland Athletics announced its 2014 Hall of Fame Class on Wednesday, highlighted by the induction of men's basketball star Len Bias.
Bias, who played for the Terrapins from 1982-86, is third on the program's all-time scoring list with 2,147 points, and he led Maryland to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and the 1984 ACC Tournament title.
He was a First-Team All-American and two-time ACC Player of the Year during his 131-game career with the Terps, and during his senior season the small forward averaged 23.2 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting 54.4 percent from the floor.
Bias was selected second overall in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics but died two days after the draft, at age 22, of a cardiac arrhythmia brought on by a cocaine overdose.
In the years after his death there was little recognition of Bias by Maryland because of his drug involvement, which was also the reason he had not been inducted into the Hall of Fame until now.

The induction ceremony will be held on Oct. 3 at Maryland's campus in College Park.
