West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said Tuesday at Big 12 media days that he would be open to playing Pitt again, potentially giving new life to one of college football's fiercest rivalries. Specifically Holgerson said, "I would welcome back Pitt and the Backyard Brawl anytime they wanted it," reports Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

WVU and Pitt met 104 times, dating back to 1895, in what was dubbed the 'Backyard Brawl,' one of college football's fiercest rivalry series. The teams' last meeting came in 2011, and the schools' moves to new conferences (West Virginia to the Big 12 and Pitt to the ACC) ended the series. 2012 was the first season since 1942 that the game hadn't been played.

Pitt holds the all-time series edge 61-40-3, though West Virginia won the final three matchups, and seven of the final 10.
