Oregon's Marcus Mariota says he took out insurance policy
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota said Wednesday at Pac-12 media days that he has taken out an insurance policy, according to ESPN's Kyle Bonagura.
The value of the policy is not known.
College athletes can take out loans from the NCAA's Exceptional Student-Athlete Disability Program to help finance policies providing protection against future earnings lost to injury or illness.
The athletes must repay the policies upon signing professional contracts.
South Carolina product Jadeveon Clowney, the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft, took out a $5 million policy before his final college season (2013).
Texas A&M paid more than $50,000 to help cover an insurance policy for offensive lineman Cedric Ogbuehi that convinced him to return for his senior season.

Mariota passed for 3,665 yards and 31 touchdowns while leading Oregon to an 11-2 record last season.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound signal caller enters his junior year having already matched the program record for most total touchdowns.
