TCU coach Gary Patterson said on ESPN Thursday that the situation involving suspended defensive end Devonte Fields is disappointing.

Fields was separated from the university on Tuesday pending results of a police investigation. Fields is a suspect in a domestic disturbance incident after allegedly pointing a gun in the face of his ex-girlfriend, threatening her by saying "I should blast you!" and punching her in the head, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram

He has not been arrested or charged with a crime.

The Big 12 defensive freshman of the year in 2012, Fields played in just three games last season due to a suspension for violating team policy and a foot injury. He was named this season's preseason defensive player of the year at Big 12 Media Days earlier this week.
