Forward Calvin Godfrey will transfer to Memphis for his final season of eligibility, according to a report from ESPN's Jeff Goodman. Last year, the 6-foot-8, 240-pound Godfrey averaged 13.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game as a junior at Southern.

Godfrey's path to Memphis is a circuitous one: He began his college career at Iowa State, where he averaged 5.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as a freshman in the 2010-11 season. He was suspended mid-season that year, and was ultimately released from the program due to repeated violations of team rules and an arrest for marijuana possession.

Godfrey then transferred to Howard College in Texas, where he averaged 12.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game on 62 percent shooting. He was offered a scholarship to LSU following that season, but he was not accepted into the school due to academic issues

Godfrey subsequently transferred to Southern, where he played one season before being granted a graduate transfer waiver, enabling him to be eligible to play immediately wherever he transferred. He will join a Memphis program that went 24-10 last year, including a 12-6 mark in the AAC. The Tigers earned a six seed in the NCAA tournament, and beat St. Mary's before losing to Michigan State in the round of 32.

Godfrey was a two-star recruit coming out of Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope, Minn.
