Former TCU DE Fields lands at Stephen F. Austin

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) Former TCU defensive end Devonte Fields has joined Stephen F. Austin, an FCS schools where he will be eligible to play immediately.

Fields was suspended by TCU last month after he surrendered to authorities on a misdemeanor assault warrant, stemming from allegations he threatened his ex-girlfriend and punched her.

Field revealed plans to transfer to Stephen F. Austin on Twitter Wednesday night. The school made it official on Thursday.

TCU has said only that Fields remains ''separated'' from the university, barred from campus and all school activities while his case was being reviewed.

Fields was the Big 12 defensive player of the year as a freshman in 2012, and missed most of last season due to injuries and suspensions.

Stephen F. Austin also added freshman defensive back Tarrin Mitchell, who originally signed with Houston.

''I'm excited to be able to work with both of these young men as they both bring a great deal of talent to our defensive unit,'' Lumberjacks coach Clint Conque said. ''They both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge at their respective positions and will provide some quality depth.''
