According to a police report acquired by The Ann Arbor News through the Freedom of Information Act, the victim in the case lost a tooth and broke his jaw in three places, "requiring it to be wired shut and necessitating the temporary use of a breathing tube."

Hoke released a statement when York was suspended, which read in part:

"We demand that every person in our program represent the University of Michigan and the Michigan football program the right way on and off the field. When people fall short of that, there are consequences.”

York will be arraigned on August 22.
